SharePoint 2007 to 2010 Migration Issue with Summary Links Web Part

After completing a database attach migration from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 I noticed an error occurring on several web pages.  The error message was:

Access Denied saving Web Part properties: either the Web Part is embedded directly in the page, or you do not have sufficient permissions to save properties (Web Part ”).

Each page that reported this error had a summary links web part on it.  So far the only solution I have found is to view each page using an account with full control permissions for the page / site.   To expedite this process I created a small console application I am running after the migration process to automatically test load every page within the farm using a farm administration account.

If anyone comes up with a better solution I would love to hear it.

  1. Have you ever heard of this one: Upgraded content DB from MOSS 2007 to 2010, and SOME (but not all) Summary Link web part show as CLOSED. A page may have several Summary Link web parts, and after the upgrade some that were OPEN in MOSS 2007, are now CLOSED.
It””s wierd, and I haven””t found any rhyme or reason why yet.. The upgrade log shows no errors or warnings related to this..

    Thoughts?

    1. Wow… that is very strange. I have not seen that yet. There is something weird going on with the Summary Links after an upgrade. I haven””t had any issues with other web parts yet.

  2. I””m having this exact issue after performing a database attach on our 2010 farm. Has there been any response from Microsoft regarding this? Just wondering if there is a better fix than loading every single page under an admin account. Thanks!
