This morning my first Windows Phone 7 application, Boating Companion, passed certification and was published to the Windows Phone Marketplace.
Boating Companion provides you with marine weather information directly from NOAA buoys. Boating Companion utilizes your current location to identify all buoys located with 100 miles of your current location. These buoys are presented on a map and in list format. Selecting a buoy from the map or list will present you with the latest weather information directly from the buoy. You can also search for buoys by city, state or by zip code and then add them to a favorites list.
This application utilizes weather data from NOAA and therefore will only provide useful information within the United States.
You can purchase this application for just 99 cents from the Windows Phone Marketplace.
Writing a Windows Phone 7 application was a great learning experience and I was surprised at how simple it really is. To get started you just need to download the Windows Phone 7 developer tools which are available for free! Even if you are not a developer, you can quickly learn how to write great applications for this platform. Just check out the video series titled Windows Phone 7 Development for Absolute Beginners. If you are a seasoned .NET developer but have never built a Silverlight app, you may also want to watch a few of those videos.
If you try my application please leave feedback using the Contact Me! form on this site. I would like to hear what you like about the app and what you would like to see added in the future.
