This upcoming Wednesday, August 10th I will be loading my personal watercraft into a semi trailer and jumping on a charter bus to Mackinac City, Michigan to begin another awesome Grand Tour. This will be the 14th year that the riders in the Grand Tour have raised money for Leader Dogs for the Blind based in Rochester, Michigan.
For those of you not familiar with the Grand Tour, it is a 3 day, 350 mile personal watercraft endurance ride starting in Mackinac City, Michigan and ending at Dunton Park in Holland Michigan.
The purpose of this endurance ride is to raise awareness to the work of Leader Dogs for the Blind and to raise funds to assist them in their efforts to provide means for safe and independent travel of the visually impaired.
I have participated in many Grand Tour events, but this one will be very special. Due to a back injury I had to take several years off; this year I have a new watercraft and am feeling in great shape. I look forward to seeing all of my Grand Tour friends and to participate once again in this wonderful event.
The riders will leave the beaches of Mackinac City early on Thursday morning for the first leg of the endurance ride. After riding for approximately 100 miles the riders will pull into port at Traverse City where we will spend the evening. On Friday morning we will begin another 100+ mile run down Lake Michigan on our way to our next destination, Ludington, Michigan. Saturday morning will be the start of the final leg of the trip where we will wrap up our 350 mile journey.
On Saturday evening the riders along with members from the Leader Dogs for the Blind organization will have a celebratory dinner where the donation check will be presented.
If you happen to live near any of these locations, we would love to have you stop by and see us! Contact the Grand Tour organization for detailed schedule information.
I am still looking for a few last minute donations! The donations are tax deductible (in the U.S.) and goes to a wonderful organization. If you can help, please contact me!
